My personal interest in chess programming has nothing to do with running the
engines, I just like to read the source code. I've never even run Toga II, but
do I have the source code here on my machine. I've picked through it, and I've
learned quite a bit from it. I've also learned a lot from Fruit.

While the two programs are very similar, it's clear to me that your work on Toga
II is valuable. Every open-source initiative represents a selfless dedication to
the users that it serves. Toga II is no exception.

You've made it clear that you find the word "clone" offensive. I understand why
you might be offended by that word, and because I have an appreciation for your
work on Toga II, I certainly wouldn't want to offend you. So, I will make a
mental note never to use the word clone when referring to a derivative work.

But you've got to be kidding with the call for moderation.

Asking the moderators to enforce members' usage of the English language is
ridiculous. I would guess English isn't the mother tongue of half the members of
this forum. How can you even expect a non-native speaker to fully understand
every nuance of every word he utters?

I've been an Internet user since, well... before there was a World Wide Web. I'm
new to CCC, but I've been a member of lots of newsgroups, forums, whatever. I
can't recall ever being a part of an online community like this one.

There are so many incredibly smart people here. So much smarter than me. But the
behavior on this site is sometimes simply embarrassing. I come here to learn but
I spend most of my time reading about petty arguments and complaints.

The function of a moderator should not be to control English usage. A
moderator's only function should be to prevent abuse. Abuse means both personal
abuse, and site abuse. An example of personal abuse would be if I used
obscenities or insulted someone's mother. An example of site abuse would be if I
only came here to post blatant advertisements for a product without contributing
to the content.

You told us how you feel. Now it's up to each individual to respect your
feelings. I do, and I will. But I think you'll value my respect more knowing
that it was earned and not enforced.
