Hello all, Here are a few notable items for those not in attendance today: 1. Hiarcs is using a UCI version :) 2. The following programs have lost a point due to forfeits: PostModernist (3 times disconnection rule) pmess (failed to show up for first round) Fruit (Interface failure) Thinker (Failed to show up for 5th round) p.s - It should also be noted that Rybka during it's 4th round game with Hiarcs disconnected 4 times and _should_ have lost due to forfeit. No one brought this to my attention until after the game probably due to Fruit having issues. When asked about it Enrico (Hiarcs team) like a true sportsman acted like I was crazy and didn't know what I was talking about. Blast sportsmansip! I wanted controversy! :) During the first round PostModernist also lost due to the connection rule while being up by +6 in the game. Andrew actually _insisted_ he resign as it was not fair to his opponent. And finally when Fruit lost in the 4th round due to an interface problem and everyone was kind of on my back (are you kidding.. chess people angry at something?) Ryan Benitez told me in a private tell to "do whatever the rules stated, and he would live with that." Of course I had no choice but to give the game to Zappa, as per the rules. While great chess is being played, the sportsmanship level is amazing. People are taking their lumps like gentlemen, and treating each other with a terrific level of respect. I only hope it continues tomorrow! (Personally I think someone put something in the water.. ) 3. Diep, Rybka, and Zappa were having an _excellent_ conversation in channel 64 regarding chess engine programming. Many just sat and listened while those three just "clucked" along like three old hens around a table with tea. It was great to see, and I hope more comes tomorrow. My favorite line of the conversation: "Zappa: How dare you accuse me of null move pruning! :)" (Or forward move pruning.. I was kind of busy at the time with keeping score:() The first day was _very_ entertaining. I can only hope the second day brings more of the same banter between participants and spectators. ;) Peter
