or to prevent stalemate(generating stalemate was in a study that I am not sure
if it is correct because 3 pieces against 2 may win.

the previous examples were bad examples because promotion to bishop is not the
only way.

Here is an example from a practical game when promotion to bishop is the only
way from that site.
