Hi Steve, I can't speak for the others, but PostModernist forfeited its first game because of multiple disconnections. I knew that PM wasn't crashing, but I didn't know what part of the network was at fault. In the first round there were a few disconnections for other competitors and for a while I thought it was an ICC problem. However, PM's were the only ones which persisted in the first round. After resigning the game, I rebooted my PC, cable modem and router to see if that would cure the fault. During the second game, PM disconnected twice and I feared another forfeit. Peter Skinner suggested a possible overheating problem, so I took the back off the case. Inside I found lots and lots of dust. My PC is a Shuttle machine and it doesn't have a CPU fan, rather a heatpipe which is connected to a case fan. The case fan was clogged with dust and there was loads of dust on the motherboard too. I used a compressed air blower to try to clear it up (all this while PM was still playing, one disconnection away from a second forfeit, remember!). I left the case off and went back to watching on my laptop. Pinging postmodernist revealed that the problem was fixed, as its average ping times reduced throughout the rest of the game. I had no more problems during the tournament, although I didn't replace the case until the end! Andrew
