Zappa vs Fruit Fruit started out in the trny using the ChessPartner interface. During my testing of fruit I was using the GUI's Book. So when fruit when to play Zappa. The bug showed up in the ChessPartner interface. This bug will not allow the program to play its moves from the black side. So what i saw was, Zappa made its moves the Interface would take the move back and then sit that with its time running. It was like after it tooks Zappa's move back it would then sit on its time waiting for the move. Many thought the bug was due to the timestamp but, its was due to using a book thats not native to the GUI. Later in the trny I switched back to the Chess Partner interface because it was much quicker than the Winboard/Poly setup. Which lead's me to our next lost. Spike vs Fruit To avoid any problems with GUI we decide to switch to the Winboard/Poly setup. I stayed up most the night figuring out how to get this setup to work. All went well but, i had no time to test. So our game start out as normal but, i notice the Knps were really low. Spike was looking 16-17 moves deep and Fruit was looking only 12-13. In the past on Icc i used the winboard interface and felt it was very fast. So i didn't think any thing was wrong with the setup, I figure I was over heating or something and was getting cpu throttling effects. The position was very difficult as you can see from some earlier post. I really didn't see were we could have played much better even if we were at full speed. Now speaking of speed that leads me to our final lost. Hiarcs vs Fruit I wasn't really sure at this time why Fruit was searching so slowly. In the Chess Partner interface it was searching much much faster and deeper. I figured maybe the position was so difficult that it could not look at all the possibilities. So the game with Hiarcs started and again I notice this slow down. Immediately I new this was a problem. But, from what i was thinking. So I go around to the back of my computer and started checking for excessive heat. While fooling around in the back I knocked my router off line. At this time i thought my ISP went down. So i figured i will reboot my entire system with complete shut down. I had Bryan on the phone at this time and i told him I am rebooting and will be in and a second. I lost my ISP, at that time i notice that the router was not on but got it rebooting also. All would have been ok and we would have made it back in time. I was using a Trail version of WindowXp64 which still has over 2 months to go. With the powering down of my computer completely it reset the bios in my system which reset the time in date of the system. I knew of the fact that my cmos battery wasn't working and never thought i would have to shut down like this. So when windows started it said my eval has ended. Also at that time i got the new's from Ryan we had be forfeited. I felt so sorry for Ryan because he is such a nice guy. So I thought i could re-install over the old and all would be good but it did not and i almost got another forfeit. The operating system allowed me to boot and i played my game with Diep. But, we were running much slower. Lucky fruit was able to win that game but i wanted to go back to ChessPartner because Hiarcs had sent a message about the bug with using your own book. So with black my plan was not to use the fruit book. I wanted to restart my computer to free up any resources but my game with Diep lasted much longer. Vincent program froze in a mate position, similar to what use to happen to Rybka. I lost 40 min of trouble shooting that i was going to do. Upon rebooting the program said my copy expired. Lucky i have a dual boot system and i booted into winxp. Then i install ChessPartner and finished the rest of the trny out in that GUI with no problems. Fruit even made a nice night sac on e6 early in the game to take the advantage. Fruit has made a lot of improvements especially in the king safety which was shown in its game against TheBaron. Thanks Fruit Team for Allowing me to Operate your Fine program.
