I have a comment to you problems with winboard + polyglot and low NPS. I had exactly the same problem on my Linux and Mac systems (two) using the precompiled binaries that are in the polyglot archive files. Somehow with these binaries (especially polylgot 1.3, didn't test polylgot 1.4) reduce the NPS about 50% on my machines! I emailed Fabien about this, and he old me there is a switch called 'UseNice' in polyglot that does this that actually should be turned off but maybe was turned on by the people who compiled the binaries for different systems. I replied to him that this could lead to problems for people running tournaments but he denied because he thinks it has no effect on most systems. In the source it's turned off, so if you compile polyglot yourself there won't be any problems. Maybe this whole story has nothing to do with your problems, but I would find it incredibly funny if this was the case for you. regards Andy
