There is (for me) some irony in that the Gullydeckel author (Martin Borriss) is both an expert programmer: http://gully.borriss.com/martin/index.html and a chess playing expert: http://www.fide.com/ratings/card.phtml?event=4611950 I believe if he wanted to put in great effort that he could write a world-beating program but I think he lacks the interest.
