In 1987 SSDF interviewed the most experienced Swedish chesscomputer repair specialist. He said the following about the dedicated computers: Novag Constellations: Very well built and only rarely needs repair. The most ordinary defect is that it starts beeping and lighting up all leds. The reason for this is often bad contact between the ROM and the socket and it heltps to remove the ROM and put it back again. Fidelity: On the Excel computers it is common for some of the leds to go out. This has to do with the soldering on the mainboard. Could also be some problems with the adaptor. Saitek Turbostar: Some problems early because of bad mechanic solutions. Conchess: Dependable electronics, but magnet sensors can go bad. The Achilles heel for Conchess is bad gluing of the plastic support inside the computer, so that the buttons sinks inside the board. Keep your computers healthy regards Erik
