Subject: is Valery Salov's choice against the english attack a bad idea?

Author: Joseph Ciarrochi

Here is the position

[D]r2q1rk1/pp1bbppp/4p3/6Pn/3BN3/5P2/PPPQ3P/2KR1B1R w - - 0 14

Salov won this game in 1994. I like the idea of striking out in the center
rather than the immediate a6, b5 attack you normally see. However, the computers
don't like this position for black.

Qg2 was played, but rybka tends to favour rg1 or qe3 (as does fritz9), wheras
fruit2.2. likes the ultrasolid kb1 for awhile but also likes rg1

Rybka and fritz see it as +.82...not so good for black. Fruit2.2. sees it as
.45... (depth 15)

Who ya going to believe?
