Subject: Does Anybody know WHY Fisher(white)plays 4)Bxc6 on the Ruy Lopez?

   Ruy Lopez:

   1 e2:e4...e7:e5
   2 Ng1:f3...Nb1:c6
   3 B:b5. . .a7:a6
   4 Bxc6!

 Why? Popular move seems to dictate that white player plays Bb5:a4

 What's the advantage of this move by Fisher and what are its disadvantages?
