I don't know if this answers your question, but there is a french program,
called "Jester" or "Lady Jester", which is entirely programmed in Java!

This program participated to the french computer championship, in its
interpreted (slow) version. The program was not compiled, so it was too slow to
achieve a good ranking. I think there is an Internet site where you can play
against this program (which is, in this case, downloaded as a Java application
and executed in your computer).
