I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, USA. I use
Chess, Computer Chess, Programming, Checkers and other games
with clients. Most research can be found (I only use techniques
backed by scientific research) in the area of "Play Therapy",
many books on this subject can be found at Amazon.com.

Chess, Computer Chess, and Programming (as well as checkers
and other board games) can be used to improve self esteem,
teach responsibility, understand consequences of choices,
teach limit setting. Most of this can be used in Non-Directive
and also Cognitive psychotherapy. These techniques are very
effective for clients with "Conduct Disorders", "Post Traumatic
Stress", survivors of abuse (physical/sexual). A lot of
research in this area is conducted at the University of North
Texas (Dr. Gary Landruth is a leader in this field).

Best Regards,
