Hi CCC I think it is interesting what Frederic Friedel says About micros chess programs. "Naturally the quality of programming also plays an important role. Today's top PC programs like Fritz and Junior run at up to 600,000 positions per second on the fastest available hardware. They realistically have a playing strength of over 2600 and are a match for all but the top 100 players in the world. In rapid chess only the top dozen or so can compete, in blitz chess probably only two or three players could survive". I don't know much about the backround of this indivisual but I do know that he worked closely with Kaspy during the 1997 Deeperblue match. Perhaps his accessment of the Playing strength ofmicros are based in his conversations with kaspy. Unless I am misinterpretating the above comments, it seems to me that we have yet another expert in the Micro's are grandmasters camp!
