We have many customers who are concerned about ordering on an unsecured server, and many more who could not care less. In our two plus years of experience in taking Internet orders, we have not experienced a single problem with credit card theft or fraud. In fact, Jeroen van Dorp's post here on CCC is actually the first time I ever heard of ANY problem (aside from the scare tactics of some of the companies that market secure software) from anyone who ever actually had a problem. However, even though I do not think that there is a need for it, we will have a secure server in place by the end of the summer because the PERCEPTION of safety is sometimes as meaningful as the reality to the consumer. If I were a consumer, I would too feel better about a secure server even though as a retailer, I feel there is really no need. - Steve (ICD/Your Move) P.S. For those of our customers who still feel uneasy about ordering on an unsecured server, we offer the alternative of a toll-free call, a fax, snail mail or dividing their credit card onto two separate emails: one with the first half of the credit card number and the other with the second half and the expiration date. If the odds are 5 million to one that someone will intercept your Internet order, then they are geometrically higher by splitting the order in two.
