Anand came in second place, 0.5 points behind Kasparov in Hoogovens (Wijk aan Zee) 1999. Anand tied for second place, 2.5 points behind Kasparov in Linares 1999. Nobody else has even come close to these types of results: 4 1st place 3 2nd place (including vs. Karpov where the deck was stacked against him) out of 8 tournaments or matches.
