This is an excellent idea, provided, of course, that the games are of sufficient length to provide evidence of how well GM's stack up against one of the world's strongest computer programs. We all know that few, if any, of the world's GM's can beat Rebel 10 or any of the top programs the majority of games in blitz chess. The open question is: How will these guys do at time controls that will allow for high-quality chess, e.g., 40/2? I'm sure that Rebel 10 will give even the very best players a run for their money at 40/2. After all, Anand didn't exactly make Rebel 10 look like an idiot. To me, the most interesting question is: How strong are our top commercial programs running on fast processors against properly prepared GM's? I like the idea of giving each GM the option of a rematch regardless of the outcome of Game 1. I don't know whether that will create a traffic jam of GM's. They certainly haven't gone out of their way to play Computer vs. Human matches in the past. If Rebel can get thirty or forty games against 2500+ players under its belt, we can get something close to a proper estimate of Rebel's true strength and get closer to an answer to the controversy regarding the question of whether or not Rebel 10 or any other program is really a GM without the official title.
