Subject: 4th WB-tournament, Zarkov leading

Author: Kai Skibbe

Date: 11:08:39 04/25/99

Here are the actual standings from the 4th winboard tournament that I play
together with Frank Quisinsky. The games are played on an AMD K6-2 333Mhz and
AMD K6-2 380MHz. Each engine is configured with about 32 MB hashtables. Level is
40 moves in 40 minutes with permanent brain off. Endgame databases
(tablebases/EGDB/
bitbases) are used if supported by the engine.
Each engine plays 8 games against each other engine.

Standings after 628 games, round 10:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
01) Zarkov 4.5e            USA  65,5 off  96 P.  2552 ELO
12) The Crazy Bishop 0043  FRA  36,0 off  96 P.  2348 ELO
13) Stobor Build 32-56     USA  27,0 off  96 P.  2280 ELO
Actual we are playing with Bionic 4.11. This new version seems to be 75-100
ELO weaker than version 4.01, so we don´t exspect a high position.
The engines Zarkov, AnMon, Patzer, Francesca, Stobor and Voyager are not
freeware. These engines has been made available by the programmers only for our
tournaments.
Short impressions :
ZChess 1.20 seems to be a big improvement (+100 ELO) over ZChess 1.00. Comet and
Crafty
are also stronger than the older versions. Stobor seems to have a bug, because
earlier
versions were much stronger (about 2400 ELO) than the actual Build 56.
The result from Nimzo is a little disappointment, because we espect a better
result.
Zarkov plays a very strategically chess and in the endgame it is much stronger
than
the other engines, although it didn´t use endgame databases.
This is the actual ELO list from all our winboard games calculated with
