As I cannot afford ChessBase databases. Although this may not apply to use, ExaChess Lite is an excellent chess database that is free. It is however for the Mac. On the Gambitsoft site (www.gambitsoft.com) there is a list of free data base programs, some of which are reported as very good. I think that at least one can use Crafty as an engine.
