The main thing is to put your personal approach to work. And to do this, you must believe in it, and in yourself, and consistantly follow it through. Of course different techniques work for different people. I am a chess addict! - I'm have bought thousands of dollar's in chess books & software over the years, and still buy stuff all the time. I've moved back to New York (from a 4 year stay in Seattle), in January, and I am making some progress. (ICC 1950 in Seattle. In NY - 2000, 2100, 2200, 2100, 2000, 2250, 2150, 1950, 2000, 2100, and 2260 is my approx current rating on ICC. My USCF should also go up slightly in the near future. An important element is that I am enjoying my chess outing more than I have in a long time also. One of my favoright activities is the Friday night rapids at the Marshall, which I have helped to bring back to regular attendance. (I hope to get permission from the director's/player's of the Marshall, to bring my notebook computer for participation of the various chess program's, but that's another post). Conclusion; Not as much progress as I'd like of course, but definate & true. So what is holding me back? Answer - Only myself. I like to watch TV, see Video's and basically 'goof off' in ways too numerous to go into. If I ever decide to actually 'study' all of the chess material I have right here at my finger tips, for about 6 hours a day (instead of the currrent 60 minutes), then you would see some surprising rating gains for a man of 42. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking too it:) mrslug - the inkompetent chess software addict!
