Imagine ten programs within 100 ELO of each other, and all on the same (approximate) hardware. Any of them can win. But imagine the bottom program being put on a machine 100 times faster than any of the others. Still an even race? Multiple CPU programs will crush programs designed for a single CPU, if everything else is about even. >I believe that dark thought is going to do good result. >It did a very good results in the nunn match against all the programs and did >not have a big hardware advantage. >(the opponents had more time in these games to give them some >compensation). > >I also expect Junior to do good result. I expect all of the programs to do fairly well, especially the commercial ones where the programmers get lots of time to work on their pride and joy. But I expect multiple CPU programs to outshine single processor systems. Perhaps that will make for an interesting poll question in itself. "How important will multithreading and multiple CPU's be for the future of chess and what will be the measurable impact on performance?"
