I think most people now think that the Big 3 programs Chessmaster 6000, Fritz
5.32, and Hiarcs 7 running on a decent computer (PII 300 or >) play at a GM
level at all time controls. (40 moves in 2hrs. or faster). There are a few
experts who cling to the notion that Chess programs other then deep blue play
below a GM level, but they will become fewer and fewer in the next year. It has
been clear for sometime that programs are playing at a GM level. No, not beyond
any doubt, but the evidence is sure leaning hard in favor of GM strength for
some programs in terms of a resonable doubt.
