A previous post asked about a 30 move rule that I had noticed in an old chess rule book. As it turns out, the 30 move rule that they were talking about did not have anything to do with current 50 move rule. Rather, in the late 50's and early 60's, a 30 move rule was established by FIDE to eliminate "Grandmaster Draws". The rule stated that a minimum of 30 moves had to be made in a game before a draw could be agreed upon. The rule was eliminated in the mid 60's. Steve
