I agree the best freeware programs are not much worse than the commercial ones.

But the NIMZO case is special : actually there is a version nimzo2000a which
plays just as good as the original Nimzo2000, which is a very strong program
while the sold winboard engine just sucks ( for example varduz on ICC uses 2000a
).

I think probably the author is planning to make an internet connection for the
original program himself . What over reason is possible to offer something that
is worse than your best ? Or maybe he wanted to fool millenium :=)
