In your first line: 18.f5 hxg5 19.f6 gxf6 20.Ne4 Rfd8 21.Nxf6+ black can play Kf8 instead of Qxf6 and white need to see some more plies to see that white is winning. It is easy for computers to see it after 21.Nxf6+ Kf8 but it is not easy to see it not easy for programs to see it from the position before 18.f5 Genius4 and other programs prefer the obvios losing move 21...Qxf6 instead of Kf8 because they see after 8 plies from the original position+ search of some plies that king moves are even worse than Qxf6. Crafty16.6 as engine for Junior sees only after 6 plies from the position after 21.Nxf6+ that white is better. It suggests after 5 plies search Kf8 with advantage for black. a possible line is 18.f5 hxg5 19.f6 gxf6 20.Ne4 Rfd8 21.Nxf6+ Kf8 22.Qh5 Qc7 and now crafty see only at depth 4 that 23.Nd7+ is leading to mate in 6.
