That depends. I think Bruce expressed himself strongly, as did Will Singleton.
I don't think that either should have tape strapped over their mouths. Just
because you have served as moderator, does not mean that you cannot say what you
think. Strangely, I find myself agreeing with both of them on certain points.
I think the entire moderation issue is very intricate and difficult. Perhaps
the audience itself is a large part of the problem. Moderation will largely
result from people sending in messages on the "note to moderators" form (I
suspect). If we all try to keep calm and take things with a grain of salt, it
might be better. A wise man once said, "The taking of offense is what rests in
the bosom of the stupid ones." If we all keep calm there would be a lot less
need for moderation. And even if we don't manage it, we can at least do our
best. If we are all walking on eggshells and ready to fly off the handle at the
least bit of provocation then we are building our own poder-keg.

Don't think I mean that moderation is bad. Look at
news:rec.games.chess.computer for an example of what happens when any whinging
twit can slander anyone in any way they see fit.

Rather, I mean that the best form of moderation is self-moderation. [cough --
physician, heal thyself].
