Yep, this basically creates an RGCC inside CCC, but it gives those >whose messages have been censored a feeling of immunity from moderation. With regard to (1), it would take some work, since currently controls are lax as to who may log on, and in how many guises. Other difficulties exist, as well. But the idea is very attractive, and I'd like to see it put into operation on as test basis. That is, enable the system as your describe, but allow the moderators to monitor the "votes" and do the deleting. If it works as planned, then go automatic. However, I would think that icd might view the work to do this as excessive. Don't know. Tim? As to (2), the open forum within a forum, again an attractive idea, as long as the mods could exclude obvious troublemakers. This has been raised before (similar idea), and I recall that icd had some problem with it. Also, not much support from the members. But, with rgcc gone now, it's worth reconsideration. I have another idea to contribute to your brainstorming. A six-month moderator term is way too long, I think we are burned out. I am, almost. For moderation to be done properly, it should be more like a one-month deal, 3 people all working together for the duration, then passing the baton. This would reduce the perception of moderators as entrenched dictators, and spread the responsibility to the membership. Some tweaking of the method of transition would be needed. But short term moderators would be more appealing, and liven things up, besides. Another idea is for the membership to restrict themselves to computer chess. A self-policing system. Nah, too radical.
