Subject: How about a different proposal for CCC Moderation?

Go up one level in this thread

How about a system of not removing threads at all without Steve's permission?

We are (mostly) adults here. We can handle a little bit of flak.

However, the idea proposed by Ed of having the moderators be there to curb but
not delete inappropriate behavior seems like a good one.

Maybe the moderator job would change slightly to that of a referee as opposed to
that of a policeman. By this, I mean that they would step in with a post titled:

ENOUGH!!!

or some such (maybe not quite so strong as this).

So you would have post threads that go:

Is CM700,000 better than Hiarcs47?
  Is CM700,000 better than anything?
     Where do you come from?
       What are you, an idiot?
         ENOUGH!!!
           He started it.

(this last one was an attempt to lighten up the mood)

Using this type of technique, Steve could quickly search for threads titled
"ENOUGH!!!" and could decide to delete portions of the thread above and below
this special post. The moderators could Email Steve if things get out of hand
and Steve would be the final arbitrator. Since posts would only be deleted by
Steve, Bruce's Orwellian moderator concept would disappear. All of the posts
would be there for everyone to see and if a moderator got out of hand by placing
"ENOUGH!!!" posts everywhere, everyone would see it.

This seems reasonable to me since I feel that most of the people who do post
here are reasonable people (myself excluded, I'm a maverick).

Steve could work out the details of such a solution and put them in the
agreement area.

Also, I think this would minimize the problem of everything a moderator says is
criticized and scrutinized since the moderators would APPEAR to have less power
(not really since they are doing a good job from my point of view and if there
are real abusers, Steve will make sure that they get censored and/or booted).
So, the moderators like everyone else could be free to write what they want and
all other members would still have the option of Emailing Steve that this
moderator (or member) is being abusive.

Some food for thought.

KarinsDad :)

PS. Steve, that was a real nice comment you made in your post. Thank you! You
made me blush.
