Hi George

I've been around chess computers for quite some time and have had experience
with most of the machines you mention. I would recommend the Cosmos. Has great
features, strength, portablity with a playing surface you won't go blind looking
at. The only flaw i have found with it is you must glue a piece of very thin
foam under the lid or all the pieces fall out when transporting it even when it
is closed.

From my experience you will find the move entry method of the Sapphire II to be
absolutely maddening! Push four buttons for every move and if you happen to read
it and apply the move to the board incorrectly, you have no feedback that you
made the wrong move until later into the game.

To answer your other question. No, I don't much bother with the stand-alones now
that I have a powerful PC except they are handy when travelling.
