Hello George,

I am a frequent visitor to the CCC, although I almost never post messges here.
I thought I would reccommend the Radio Shack 2150L suggested by Mark in his post
because I have used the previous model, the RS 2150. It is an excellent machine,
and it's ability to learn by acessing it's 'library' is a wonderful feature, and
the LCD screen is a feature I would never want to be without. It is a very
strong machine -with the ability to become much stronger if you know what you're
doing.I did outgrow my Radio Shack eventually and purchased a modest PC to play
on as a result, but I often wish I had never gotten rid of this wonderful stand
alone gem.

In response to your related question however, you are quite right in assuming
that stand alones have seen their day. They are fun but now they're done - I now
get a game with a 2000+ rated opponent on my PC while only having to wait 2
seconds a move as opposed to 3 minutes or move from my old RS 2150, which
enables me to train much harder for tournaments.

If you have any more questions about the 2150 you may email me at your leisure.

Sincerely,
