He's still around... he just published an interesting 'material-odds' article in Chess Life... an article dealing with material imbalances (ie rook and pawn (or two pawns) vs two pieces, queen vs two rooks, and such.) Certainly worth reading. I came to the same conclusions as he published, which is why I have had some interesting 'bad trade' code in crafty for a couple of years... ie piece for 3 pawns almost always is a win for the side with the piece... rare exceptions... etc...
