Steven Edwards wrote a SAN kit specifically so that no one else would have to!
The only reason I would redo the work is if I needed it to be _really_ fast, in
which case I would define a PGN grammar to yacc (which is what I think Peter
Klauser did for CDB.)

I don't recall where the separate distribution can be found, though you might be
able to strip his code out of Crafty.  But he posts here too from time to time,
so you might be able to get it directly.
