Go up one level in this thread

For anyone rated less than 2000 I would 1st recommend Chessmaster 6000.

I have Fritz 5, Rebel 10, MChess Pro 7.1, and CM 6000. You can learn alot from
any of them, but CM 6000 will improve you the most. Second, I would place Rebel.
CM 6000 plays "normal" chess, Rebel is very human-like, MCP plays well, too,
but Fritz is way "out there". You'll get nothing from Fritz but an all-out
focus on tactics. I think Chessmaster is the best at setting it to, say, an
ELO-level of 1500 and getting it to play at that level. You can set Fritz to
play at 1500, and it will play weaker, but it never blunders even a pawn. What
1500-rated player doesn't blunder (at least a pawn) once or twice a game. So
if you train with Fritz, you'll find you are always on the defensive and you'll
get frustrated with it. You can turn blunders on, but then you might forget
to turn it back off for some analysis. When you tell CM to play 1500, it plays
around that level. This is much more useful for improving your game.
