It depends on what you are doing.  If you want to use a program to tactically
'verify' that your analysis is correct, then tactical speed is the issue.  I
(in crafty, anyway) pay no attention to special tactics at all.  I am trying to
make it win games, not find combinations.  Because faster hardware is taking
care of the tactics part of this for me, over time...
