Go up one level in this thread

Some openings theory, old and new...

1) The Richter-Rouzer Attack in the Sicilian, after 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6
3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nc6 5. Nc3 d6 6. Bg5 e3 7 Qd2. 6. Bg5 was Richter's
move, I quote Horowitz (1964): "Here White's idea is to castle on the
Queenside and exercise pressure along the Queen file. ...[with] the
possibility of f4 to initiate an attack with e5."

2) The Four Pawn Attack in Alekhine's Defense (1. e4 Nf6 2. e5 Nd5
3. d4 d6 4. c4 Nb6 5. f4 dxe5 6. fxe5 Nc6. Apparently a line was
analysed by Loewenfisch that ran 7. Nf3!? Bg4 (the obvious counter
to this move) 8. e6, but Nunn doesn't mention it, so 7. Be3 remains.

3) This comes after the Vienna game opening 1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. f4,
and was well known in 64 when Horowitz wrote: "...exf4? 4. e5 Qe7
5. Qe2 with a clear advantage to White. Nor is 3. ...d6 satisfactory,
since it concedes to White a superiority in space. The only good move
is 3. ...d5." My new copy of NCO makes no mention of alternatives to
3. ...d5.

PS about to try this on Hiarcs 7...
