Kasparov, in his interview after >Hoogovens, already spoke that computer are helping much. I was looking at a relatively recent book by GM John Nunn where he mentions that Smyslov sprung a novelty for White against the Najdorf in a rapid tournament. After the tournament when people were praising Smyslov for the novelty, he admitted that he did not find it - Fritz did. :) Sometimes you have to search for many hours to find a move that theory already knows is best, other times a fairly shallow search will find a great move that theory has overlooked. In any case the Super-GMs are using Fritz and other programs to analyze the game, and when Hsu's DB card hits the market we could have quite a few lines overturned, new novelties, etc.
