Recently someone posted the following position on the message board and invited people to respond with their chess programmes. r7/8/4p2k/3p1bR1/7r/Np6/1P6/K5R1/ w... Iput the position to Fritz5.32 and Rebel9 and both scored the position as -3.13 or thereabouts after 4 minutes. Both favoured Rg3.CM600 found Rh5ch! 0.00 in 3 seconds. As a matter of interest I tried the position on my Risc1 machine and it too favoured Rg3 -2.97 after 8 minutes.Just for fun I gave Black a Queen at a4 to see what Risc's response would be.For 45secs it played Rg3 and scored it as -9.99 but then surprisingly switched to Rh5 ch 0.00.AS yet I have not put the new position to Fritz or Rebel but will do so shortly. What I'm interested in is why Risc found Rh5+ with the extra queen on the board. Does it have something to do with the way the programme searches under certain evaluation positions or is it just an anomaly in the programme? I welcome feedback to this puzzling situation Regards Allan
