This is such an interesting one. You'd think it was just the pawn advantage tipping the balance in favor of ...Bxb2+(? I think we can safely add), but what about this? When I first input this position, in my haste I put a pawn at h2, instead of h3. Now the material balance shouldn't affect the outcome? Well, both Fritz 5.32 and Crafty 15.7 (in Cheesbase) (oops, sorry...) prefer ...Bxb2+? to (now) ...Bxh2+ just the same! Another problem is that White's attack after ...Bxb2+? (presumably not, after Kh1 Bxa1, Bxg6 Qh4!, but Qxh5 Ne7 Rxg6+!) involves *considerable* material sacrifice, while Black's attack after ...Bh2+! Kf1 Bxg1 Kxg1 must involve 'structured' moves like ...Re5 ...Ne7-f5 and Qe7 before he can start to bring actual pressure on White's king, and programs are fairly bad at initiating this kind of sequenced build-up. Well, all-in-all today has proved a victory for the human race! Anyone for a kryonic *download* now? (ha ha) Francis PS I notice Chris says that Crafty 16.6 plays ...Bh2+! Guess I better try LGG 2.0 and CSTal II...
