It isn't the 'sponsors'.  It is the _players_.  Sponsors don't make many rules
about who can/cannot participate.  The players control that, along with the
governing organization (FIDE in this case).  I have no idea what the current
status of computer members in FIDE is...  a few years ago it was quite legal,
but rediculously expensive.  I think they thought they would hook Fidelity,
Saitek, Mephisto, etc..  into joining and pouring in lots of money into the
FIDE 'kitty'.
