Subject: For Rebel: Why not a GUI at Chessvision Level of Quality?

Author: Fernando Villegas

Sorruy to insist in this about Rebel Windows version, but we do not need travel
very far to see the kind of GUI that can be described both as technically
adequate, but also finely designed. It is Chessvision kind of GUI, the very same
everybody can see downloading the demo. It is FAR superior to that of CP under
any criteria you can use. It is real windows but also prettily done. Look at the
boards and compare with that of CP. Look at what it delivers. How it is possible
that Ed cannot get something similar? Even near that? After all, his project to
market a Rebel version is, first of all, HIS project and, besides, an old
project. Its not the case Ed was compelled to do that last week.
If per chance Christophe Theron is reading this, I ask him if he judge me to be
“negative” if I say that we cannot, as customers, just to accept what Ed and you
decided. It is not the case to say “I liked it, so what...”. Rebel is a
commercial program, not a research project. And as such it depends and must
fulfill the wishes of his customers. Yes, you and other people have tastes
different to mine, but for the same reason me and other can have tastes
different to yours. So I do not understand where we go if we just oppose and
noit take into consideration different tastes just saying “hey, you are a
negative guy”. I think there is time to consider once again this issue. I
personally know some guys in Russia that can program and design beautiful things
in a rush. I have asked them my own desktops themes and I can bet there are many
other talented designers there and elsewhere. So, why, again, to make use of at
most second class product?
Fernando, the negative guy
