I believe that this pole does not have any value. It's just an opinion pole
that's it. But after reading through Feng-hsiung Hsu's chip design as explained
in the March/April 99 issue of IEEE MICRO, I expect nothing less than an
extremely well playing chess chip.
The question that remains to be answered, does it also play much stronger in
200x (x=1,2,3) when 1-3 GHz versions of IA-64 based chips and 21364's are
hitting the road? - Against today's systems, Feng's chip is very likely the
number one chess-engine. The rating is expected to be above 2800 (also for
40/120').
"This new chip could make it possible for a desktop machine to defeat the World
Champion in a formal match as early as the year 2000."
Feng-hsiung Hsu, 1999
I am very interested to see if this is really going to happen.
