Dear Mr Hyatt, I am very glad to read that. I helped Mr Van den Herik during the 15th World Microcomputer Chess Championships in Paris (1997) for the pairings. I used exactly the same arguments but there was nothing to do! The accelerated pairing was his idea and nothing could make him change his mind. His main argument was that there was a gap between the "strong" programs and the "weak" programs in this tournament.
