Yes, but that list came out last week after Shirov tied for second with Bareev
behind Kasparov in the Sarajevo tournament the day before. I do not consider one
tournament as indicative of Shirov being better than Anand, especially since
Anand did not play in that tournament. Also, the rating differential is only 3
points.

The contract negotiations have been taking place for months now, before Anand's
last abysmal tournament and this good tournament by Shirov. Where do you draw
the line?

And, do you really consider Shirov to be the better player? Anand dropped 38
points due to one lousy tournament. Shirov gained 19 points due to one good
tournament and now is 3 points higher. They were 54 points apart just a few
months ago. 54 points is a lot of points at that level. And, Anand still has a
higher FIDE rating than Shirov. So, I doubt that most of the super GMs think
that Shirov is better than Anand. Do you?
