Hiarcs 7.32 predicted mate in 34 moves, which is because of the tablebases provided on CD (size: 372MB). For those who are interested, here is the position: White: Kf1,Bc6,Pa6 Black: Kh2,Ba7,Nf4,Pg3 1.g2+ and mate in 34. Btw I recommend to copy the tablebase-files to the hd for performance reasons. According to the readme, the Hiarcs 7.32-CD contains readily generated tablebase-files, among them the practically important endgames KPP-KP, KRP-KR, KBP-KB, KRB-KR, KRN-KR. This should be enough for the beginning, but there is also a program for generating your own, more complex tablebases. I haven't tried this yet, but according to the manual, you will need a a lot of time to create them, and lot of RAM as well to use them. Finally Hiarcs 7.32 comes with a 127MB of size opening book. The "New Hiarcs" (at least much better than the ugly DOS-Version). I think it's first choice for those, who want a strong, positional chess-programm.
