In the PGN specification it declares that the "WhiteElo" and "BlackElo" tags should be used for FIDE Elo ratings. There are also "WhiteUSCF" and "BlackUSCF" tags that approximately 95% of the world's population would have no use at all for. Really how this should work is that there should be "WhiteElo" and "BlackElo" tags, then another tag, accepting a text value, that explains the rating system most relevant to the game. For instance: [RatingSystem "Fide"] The odds of getting this implemented are of course zero, since the standard is owned by one guy who as far as I know isn't actively seeking suggestions, and even if he was accepting them, this is a change rather than an extension, and that's hard to do. Meanwhile, I would think that kludging the SSDF ratings into there is probably fine. It probably makes sense to force all of the software/hardware/settings data into the name field, if possible, since 1) that is really what determines who the "player" is, and 2) anything else would cause mass insanity. bruce
