Well that's a personal choice. If forced I would have to decide between
that and participating. I do participate on closed email lists using
my real ISP account. I've had this account for three years and have never
gotten a SINGLE spam email even though I'm all over the net, usenet,
discussion boards, etc., precisely because I don't ever use that address
in any public forum. I don't know what would constitute real proof of
identity, but I would have to trust the moderators and/or Mr. Schwarz
with it. Now I'm pretty neutral in all these moderator goings-on, but I
do note that there has been a bit of animosity between members and
moderators at times, and "outing" a person's real ID is one way people
can annoy each other. Seen it before, just not here yet. I already had
Sean Evans or some pal of his read my posts here because I argued with
him on r.g.c.c., so as long as that is possible I will certainly not post
with a real address. Mr. Schwarz may be a nice guy too, but keeping my real
email out of commercial hands is the whole reason I use alternate accounts
online. So I can't do that either. Just not into blind faith, been
burned too many times. :) When I first came online many years ago I
used real everything, but like many net vets I realized that the online
culture is not what it used to be, and I choose not to be a victim of
drivebys and other online street crime. If you can't clean the vermin
off the streets, I'm keeping the bars on my windows. :)
