I completely disagree with this, and I am one who posts under his own name. If
someone is being a troublemaker, it is easy enough to ban him, even if you only
know him as fakename@freemail.com. Yes, it's extra work, because such a person
may have many different free accounts, but at worst a few unpleasant messages
slip through. You can also write to the abuse addresses for these providers. I
did this a while ago when I started getting spam from some hotmail accounts.

A friend of mine at work doesn't have a computer of his own, but does some web
surfing from work during lunch. He doesn't rate his own company Email address,
so his only Email is a free Excite account. He's not interested in chess, but
if he were, why shouldn't he join with that address? I have a couple of rarely
used free accounts myself, and do not believe that I have ever abused them. I
think that most of the people with these accounts behave no worse than anyone
else.

It doesn't bother me that a few people occasionally make trouble here, since the
moderators can always ban them if they become too obstreperous.
