As a medium strength player (ELO 1950), I am looking to buy a strong chess programme which will have the following features: 1. A flexible chess engine able to play at a variety of levels of difficulty, preferably quantifiable with reference to ELO/BCF ratings rather than "strong", medium" etc, together with the "usual" features of analysis, solve for mate, etc; 2. A strong, up to date, and easily programmable/expandable openings database, which is "user friendly" for the serious study of different openings and opening lines; 3. An extensive, readily accessible, games database; 4. A strong, user-friendly search feature which will allow me to locate games in which certain features (eg a kingside fianchetto by black, etc) are present. Nice to haves include: a strong tuition function and/or pre-analysed games database, and an accurate "rate your play" feature. I would be grateful to anybody who can give me some guidance through the thicket of available computer programmes. Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Colin. PS: I presently work on a Pentium II, 200MMX, with 64 megs ram and ample hard-drive space.
