Discussion of topicality is always topical. However, if hostile content is present in the defense message, it should be removed also -- along with whatever additional sanctions are needed. I don't think there are any formulas. Depends upon the message and depends upon the circumstances. If we could make it some kind of formula, then we could write a program with "if (x) then (y)" and the like. No such formula exists or is likely to in the near future because each incident will be different.
