Like Junior 5, Hiarcs7 in dos can think for an hour with 64mb of ram without being slowed down much by having its hash tables filled as indicated by Hiarcs7 hash efficiency % display still being very high (in the 90-97% range) On the other hand I never did see a jump in performence for Fritz 5 in using huge hash table sizes. After about 64mb of hash memeory at 3 min a move I got about the same results as when I used over 200mb of hash with Fritz 5, running a PII 450 at 3 min a move. I even played Fritz 5 with 1 mb of hash memory to see what happens. Fritz 5 still beat most of the programs it beat when Fritz 5 was using much higher amounts of hash memory, and it still played damn strong. The conclusion I came to is: the talk about fritz 5 and hash memory has a little bit of truth in it, but it has much more hype.
