I don't know what that web site says, but *my* program was Russia champion in
1991. You can download it from GambitSoft site - engine did not changed since
1991 (or very early 1992, I beleive). And for its time it was reasonable good
program - not the best, as I lacked access to Western publications, but
definitely better than today's average amateur program.
And I'll agree with you that Centaur is... how to say it politically-correct...
research-quality program. Its author beleives that knowledge alone can replace
the search. There are people who don't beleive in the relativity - and he don't
beleive in the search :-).
And there are pieces of Russian-written code in the exactly the same Crafty you
are using now, as well as in Hiarcs 7.32, CSTal II, and some other Western
programs...
